The Electrician’s Role: Sparks, Skills, and Safety

Electricians are the spark behind every power wiring the buildings and machines to life. Homes, schools, hospitals and industries need installment, maintenance and repairment of electrical systems.

The work is practical and physically challenging,  from climbing ladders to working in tight spots. Wherever electricity is needed, electricians are there to make it safe and reliable. Therefore, in today’s world, it is a requirement of everyone — and every skilled youth can turn that demand into opportunity.

The Certification in National Vocational Certificate Level-2 in Electrical Technology (Domestic/General Electrician) by The Hunar Foundation (THF) and Affiliated  Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) empowers young individuals to master skill to generate income.

Program Objectives

1. Technical Skill Enablement

Equip trainees with hands-on electrical and electronic skills to perform routine skilled and semi-skilled installation and maintenance tasks.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this program, you’ll be able to:
  • Learn how to clearly understand job instructions, speak confidently with supervisors and coworkers, and explain work progress or issues on site. This helps to work smoothly as part of a team and avoid costly mistakes.
  • Gain hands-on experience in calculating electrical loads, measuring materials, and preparing basic cost estimates for wiring and installation work. These skills are essential when planning jobs and managing time and resources efficiently.
  • Develop strong safety awareness by learning how to identify electrical hazards, use tools and protective equipment correctly, and follow safety rules at worksites. This ensures your own safety and the safety of others around you.
  • Get trained in real life electrical wiring tasks such as installing cables, switches, sockets, and distribution boards in homes and commercial spaces, following standard wiring methods and safety norms.

Program Structure

The National Vocational Certificate Level-2 in Electrical Technology (Domestic/General Electrician) spans 26 Weeks, blending technical mastery with real world projects to ensure every learner is job ready by graduation.

Introduction

Get started with the fundamentals of electricity, electrical safety, and the role of a general electrician. Understand basic tools, materials, and workplace practices.


Key Deliverables: Understanding of electrical basics, safety awareness, identification of tools and materials.

Communication & Workplace Skills

Learn effective workplace communication, teamwork, and client interaction essential for professional electricians. Develop basic IT and reporting skills.


Key Deliverables: Teamwork task report, client communication role-play, basic work documents (invoice/report).

Electrical Calculations & Estimation

Learn how to read basic electrical drawings, calculate material requirements, and estimate labour and project costs according to market standards.


Key Deliverables: Electrical layout drawing, material estimation sheet, labour cost calculation.

Electrical Safety & Safe Work Environment

Understand workplace hazards, electrical risks, and occupational safety practices. Learn the correct use of PPE, fire safety methods, and first aid procedures.


Key Deliverables: Hazard identification checklist, PPE usage demonstration, fire-fighting and first aid practice.

Domestic & General Electrical Wiring

Learn to install domestic electrical wiring systems according to standard rules and regulations. Gain hands-on experience with conduits, trunking, fixtures, appliances, and earthing systems.


Key Deliverables: Complete domestic wiring installation, fixture and appliance setup, tested earthing system.

Final Practical Assessment

Apply all learned skills in a real or simulated domestic electrical project from planning to installation and testing.


Key Deliverables: Fully wired domestic setup with documentation, testing report, and safety compliance.
