Active initiatives creating skills and opportunity today
Pakisatan - 2026
Many young people from underprivileged and marginalized communities across Punjab and Sindh lack access to quality skills training, limiting their ability to secure stable employment and improve their livelihoods. In partnership with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), The Hunar Foundation is addressing this challenge by delivering industry-relevant technical and vocational training, along with entrepreneurship support, across Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Islamkot, Nankana Sahib, and Tando Allahyar. Through hands-on training in trades such as welding, electrical work, healthcare assistance, and dressmaking, the project equips participants with the skills needed to build sustainable careers.
The project trained 500+ graduates across six districts, with women making up more than half of all participants and entering both traditional and non-traditional trades. Through 70 community awareness sessions and strong employer linkages, the initiative helped break social barriers while enabling 70% of graduates to secure employment. By transforming skills into meaningful careers, the project is driving economic empowerment and building stronger, more inclusive communities across Pakistan.

Construction remains one of Pakistan's most male-dominated industries, with women making up less than 1% of the formal workforce. In partnership with GIZ's Build4Skills program, The Hunar Foundation is changing this by preparing young women in Karachi for careers in infrastructure and construction. Through a five-month training program in high-demand fields such as AutoCAD and Logistics & Supply Chain, participants gain industry-relevant technical skills followed by hands-on workplace experience with partner companies.
More than a skills initiative, the program is helping reshape perceptions of women's role in the sector. By connecting graduates directly with employers and providing real workplace exposure, it creates clear pathways to sustainable employment. Each woman who enters the industry inspires others to pursue careers once considered out of reach, contributing to a more diverse, inclusive, and future-ready workforce.

Today's job market is shifting fast and young people need skills that keep pace with it. Under the Prime Minister's Youth Skill Development Program (PMYSDP), The Hunar Foundation trained students in trades built for this new economy: digital marketing, eCommerce, web development, graphic design, and Amazon virtual assistance, alongside hands-on technical fields like electrician work, HVACR, CNC machining, and beauty and fashion design. The goal wasn't just to teach a trade, but to open multiple paths forward.
The program trained 630 students, equipping each one with practical, market-ready skills rather than theory alone. For many graduates, this training became a launchpad into freelancing platforms, self-employment, and small enterprise. By blending traditional vocational trades with in-demand digital skills, PMYSDP is helping build a generation of young Pakistanis who don't just look for work, but create it.

Across Punjab and Sindh, thousands of young people and women grow up with real skills but no clear path to use them. The Hunar Foundation, in partnership with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), set out to change that through a technical and vocational skills initiative designed for underprivileged and marginalised communities. By pairing hands-on training in trades like welding, electrical work, healthcare assistance, and dressmaking with entrepreneurship support, the project gave participants in Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Islamkot, Nankana Sahib, and Tando Allahyar the tools to build real, lasting livelihoods.
The results speak for themselves: 494 individuals graduated, nearly evenly split between men and women, with 70% going on to secure employment. For many, this training was the first real bridge between ability and opportunity — turning potential into income, and income into independence. By strengthening Pakistan's vocational education sector one community at a time, this partnership is proving that a skilled, inclusive Pakistan isn't just possible — it's already taking shape.

The Hunar Foundation (THF) partnered with HarKaam to connect students and alumni with digital earning opportunities through a structured gig-work platform. The initiative enables trainees to monetize their technical skills, access freelance projects, and gain real-world work experience. By integrating skill development with digital marketplaces, the program supports self-employment and remote work pathways. The collaboration aims to generate up to 1 million earning opportunities, contributing to the growth and formalization of Pakistan’s expanding gig economy.

For displaced Afghan refugees and host communities in Karachi, access to market-driven skills can be the foundation for rebuilding a stable future. Supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Government of the Netherlands, The Hunar Foundation provided vocational training in beautician services, dressmaking, electrician work, and digital marketing, equipping participants with practical skills that lead to sustainable employment and entrepreneurship.
The project trained 131 young people, including 86 women and 46 men, creating meaningful pathways to economic independence. More than 50 women launched their own businesses, earning PKR 75,000–100,000 per month, with some reaching PKR 180,000, while male electrician graduates secured skilled employment. By transforming skills into income and opportunity, the initiative has strengthened livelihoods, restored dignity, and empowered displaced communities to build resilient and self-reliant futures.

Access to the right opportunities can transform women's lives. In partnership with the British Asian Trust, The Hunar Foundation launched Driving Women's Economic Empowerment to equip women in Lahore, Multan, and Karachi with industry-relevant skills in fashion design, digital marketing, industrial stitching, and hospitality. The initiative prepared women not only for employment but also for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Between April 2022 and March 2025, the project trained and certified 2,270 women, exceeding its target of 2,100 participants. With 68% of graduates achieving economic engagement, the program empowered women to secure meaningful employment, generate income, and become active contributors to their families and communities, demonstrating the lasting impact of skills development on women's economic empowerment.
